As periodontl disese affects adults, especially the elderly, the presence of this pathology in patents with risk factors for cardiovascular disease, while are marking use of drugs becomes a usual fnding. Objectve: To verify the biochemical changes resultng from the use of olmesartan, Captopril or Atovastatna in animals with periodontal disease. Methodology: 50 Wistar rats weighing between 250-400g. Periodontal disease was induced by ligaton of 3-0 nylon thread, for 10 days, the animals received a single oral dose and daily olmesartan (1 and 10mg/Kg), Captopril (1.5 and 10mg/Kg) and Atovastatna (1.5 and 10mg/Kg). On the 11th day each group was euthanized with sodium thiopental at the dose of 20 mg/ kg and blood collected for biochemical evaluaton. The variables studied were glucose, creatnine, urea, total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, AST and ALT reading was performed on equipment BioPlus 2000 ®. To check the differences between groups was used Student's t test with signifcance level of 5% in Graf Pad Install program. Results: Periodontal disease signifcantly elevated glucose levels, LDL-C and total cholesterol (p <0.05). Also in animals treated with atovastatn, an expected pharmacological effect, which was a reducton in LDL-C and increasing HDL-C, were not found. Conclusion: The study showed an important effect of periodontal disease, in response to systemic medicatons.Acesso AbertoAnt-hipertensivosReações bioquímicasPeriodontoAlterações bioquímicas em ratos com doença periodontal e tratados com olmesartana, captopril e atorvastatnaBiochemical changes in rats with periodontal disease and treated with olmesartan, captopril and atorvastatnarticlehttp://dx.doi.org/10.9771/cmbio.v12i1.6574
