The 2000s are characterized by an external bonanza derived both from appreciation in commodity prices such as for a greater flow of favorable liquidity to peripheral countries. Therefore, the improvement in the external accounts in Brazil was followed by a structural change? Part is the hypothesis that the improvement in the external accounts was not followed by a structural change, given that there was a structural change in the period that allowed sustain growth before the reversal of the favorable external environment. Over the past two years capital inflows in Brazil stagnated and commodity prices showed the same trend, generating current account deficit and a decrease in the balance of payments surplus. In this sense, the exchange rate appreciation generated increased imports and consequently the external constraint. Thus, even with the improvement in the external accounts, the country failed to raise their income elasticities of demand for exports and reduce imports, so that the Brazilian economy remains heavily dependent on foreign capital inflows to close the account of the balance of payments.Balanço de pagamentosrestrição externapassivo externo líquidoAs contas externas do Brasil no período 2000-2013: melhora estrutural?bachelorThesis
