Although there are several methods for assessing tinnitus, including checking for the presence of a residual inhibition effect after sound stimulation, there is no standard instrument to quantify this effect before and after sound stimulation. Objective: This study aimed to describe the responses of residual inhibition after acoustic exposure for 60 seconds and compare the degree of tinnitus discomfort through the application of the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) before and after the procedure, to analyze the perception of tinnitus. Method: A pilot study was carried out that adopted a quasi-experimental design with repeated measures of a qualitative and quantitative nature with participants with tinnitus complaints over 18 years of age. THI, EVA, basic audiological evaluation, acuphenometry, minimum masking level (MML) research and residual inhibition test protocols were applied. Results and discussion:Thirteen individuals aged between 20 and 73 years participated in the study. Descriptive analysis indicated a reduction in the average tinnitus annoyance indicated on the VAS, before and after exposure to narrowband noise at the frequency at which tinnitus was perceived, but the comparison made with the t-test showed that this reduction was not statistically significant. No significant correlation was found between an impact category recorded on the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) and noise exposure. It was possible to observe a change in the tinnitus annoyance category indicated on the VAS by 38.5% of the participants, this result was not significant. Conclusion: The study revealed that there was no statistically significant difference between the average discomfort reported on the VAS scale before and after the search for residual inhibition and other variables. The findings are in line with the literature regarding the prevalence of sex, tinnitus complaints, as well as the lack of significance between age and responses after sound exposure. On the other hand, there was no significant change after sound stimulation, which may be associated with the small sampleZumbidoAvaliaçãoInibição residualEscala visual analógicaPercepçãoTinnitusAssessmentResidual inhibitionVisual analogue scalePerceptionAvaliação de incômodo em pacientes com zumbido: pré e pós busca pela inibição residualAssessment of discomfort in patients with tinnitus: before and after searching for residual inhibitionbachelorThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE
