In this scenario, the figure of the narrator emerges as the main element in understanding the situations experienced by the Captains and the object of study of this work. At the same time, the aim of the research was to investigate the identity of the narrator of the work through the category of ethos, which dates back to Ancient Rhetoric and whose notion has been recovered and reworked in text and discourse studies. To do this, the qualitative research method was used, proceeding to a bibliographical review of theories involving the concept of ethos, and then moving on to textual analysis of the text in question with a focus on the narrator. As a theoretical contribution, we initially revisited the concept of ethos addressed by Aristotle (5th century BC), and then moved on to approach this category in the discursive field, where the research was based on the theories of Maingueneau ( 2006, 2008), Fiorin (2004) and Ruth Amossy (2005). In conclusion, it was inferred that the identity of the narrator, object of study in this work, belongs to a more humanizing, sensitive and benevolent ethos in relation to the Captains of the Sands.Capitães da AreiaethosnarradordiscursoA construção do ethos em Capitães da Areia: uma investigação discursiva acerca do narradorbachelorThesis
