From this perspective, the critical and emancipatory approach of Environmental Education stands out for favoring significant learning, especially when integrated with interdisciplinary practices aimed at truly transforming the school reality. In this context, composting has proven to be an effective pedagogical tool, by articulating theory and practice, promoting reflections on consumption, sustainability and collective responsibility. From this perspective, the present work aimed to conduct a bibliographic review on the use of composting as an educational resource in Early Childhood Education and Elementary School, in addition to preparing a practical and accessible guide for managers, teachers and students, with guidelines for the implementation and maintenance of composters in the school environment. The results of this study demonstrated that composting is a pedagogical tool that can promote meaningful learning, increase environmental awareness and foster dialogue between the fields of experience provided for in the BNCC and different areas of knowledge, such as Science, Geography, Mathematics, History and Portuguese.
