Despite the degree of severity and the record of thousands of annual deaths in humans and animals in many countries, rabies is still considered one of the most neglected diseases. The description of rabies cases should be a recurrent practice, in order to point out and emphasize the occurrence of illness and injuries of high relevance to public health, providing the sum of information with the potential to encourage the adoption of measures that reduce the impacts generated by the emergence of cases. The objective of this project is to propose a report of the first case of feline rabies in the city of Caicó-RN, through the description of the animal's clinical history and surveillance actions performed after a definitive diagnosis, emphasizing the importance and role of the feline species in the epidemiology of rage. The wild canid variant was identified in the feline in question, characterizing it as a rare occurrence, as well as denouncing a possible genetic overflow (spillover) in the municipality of Caicó-RN.
