Therefore, the study aimed to evaluate the association of the nutritional status of cancer patients with in-hospital mortality within 12 months. This is a cohort study with prospective data collection, carried out in hospitalized cancer patients at the Onofre Lopes University Hospital, Natal/RN. The nutritional status was assessed by applying the Subjective Global Assessment Completed by the Patient (ASG-PPP) within 48 hours of admission; weight and height were measured, used to calculate the Body Mass Index (BMI); and calf circumference (CC) was measured. Clinical data from the patient's medical records were also evaluated. To verify the association between categorical variables, Pearson's chi-square test or Fisher's exact test were used. Significant values ​​were considered when p <0.05. A total of 158 patients were evaluated, with a mean age of 61 years, the majority of whom were women (53.2%) and non-Caucasian (84.6%). The mean score on the PPP-SGA was 15 points and 88 patients had a nutritional diagnosis of suspected or moderate malnutrition and 33 had severe malnutrition. When observing the patients who died and those who did not die during hospitalization, an association was found between the nutritional status of cancer patients when assessed by the PPP-SGA and PC with mortality (p<0.05).
