The objective was to understand the performance of the Multiprofessional Residence Maternal-Child/EMCM/UFRN in assisting women during labor, delivery and postpartum at the Hospital do Seridó in Caicó/RN. It is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The research was carried out at the maternity ward of Hospital do Seridó (HS), reference for usual risk obstetric care in the Western Seridó region. Data collection instruments were applied to preceptors, second-year residents (R2) and puerperal women of normal birth. According to the perception of the puerperal women, some data are very positive, such as respect for privacy at the birth place, presence of the companion, free walking, use of some non-pharmacological methods of pain relief and respect for the golden hour. However, some practices should still be eliminated, such as the adoption of the lithotomy position, kristeller maneuver and episiotomies. From the perspective of the professionals, we realized the importance of the residents, when verifying that they implemented the use of nonpharmacological methods of pain relief (bobath ball, backrest or ling bar, massages, warm bath, aromatherapy, chromotherapy, music therapy, exercises respiratory and pelvic mobility) as a way to humanize care; residents welcome, guide, give support for parturient women to take the lead; they helped to respect the hour of the hour, when offering neonatal screening and with the liaison visit, next to the hospital. Related to the weaknesses found in the HS, are listed: obstetric violence, medical-centered model, outdated, reduced number of professionals, work overload, lack of preceptor, communication failure, physical structure, shortage of materials and equipment. Finally, in order to minimize the weaknesses found, professional training aimed at good childbirth care practices, implementation of protocols, and greater investments in human and material resources in this maternity ward is essential.Acesso AbertoParto normalParto humanizadoPrática profissionalResidência multiprofissional materno-infantil e suas contribuições para a assistência à mulher durante o trabalho de parto, parto e pós-partomasterThesis
