However, many Brazilian municipalities still face challenges in achieving universal sewage treatment. This study aimed to diagnose the structural, operational, and sanitary conditions of the Sewage Treatment Plant (ETE) of Touros/RN and to perform the theoretical redesign of its units for the horizon between 2025 and 2045. The methodology included a technical site visit, data collection from the local sanitation agency, population projections based on census data, and the application of equations recommended by technical literature, focusing on a stabilization pond system. The results showed that, although the physical configuration of the ETE — composed of one facultative pond followed by two maturation ponds — is compatible with future demand, critical nonconformities were identified, such as the absence of preliminary treatment, structural degradation, and lack of access control. These issues compromise the efficiency and sanitary safety of the system.
