This is an analytical and cross-sectional research with a quantitative approach, developed from the application of a questionnaire containing closed questions with the postpartum women who were admitted to the rooming house of the Obstetric Clinic of the Hospital Regional Dr. Mariano Coelho, located in the city of Currais Novos/RN, between April and June 2022. A higher prevalence of cesarean delivery was observed in women with high school education or higher, with family income above one thousand reals, and in those who do not receive social benefits, as well as in those who did not have a linking visit with the maternity hospital during pregnancy and who did not participate in educational activities during prenatal care. Thus, it is understood that during pregnancy, delivery, and the puerperium the socioeconomic aspects are relegated to the background, since this period is marked by intense medicalization and the denial of the uniqueness and autonomy of women, who are subjected to unnecessary procedures and techniques.
