In this region predominates the rivers of the type intermittent that depend of the period of rains to be supplied with water. In view of the need to coexist with the periods of drought, a series of measures led to the construction of reservoirs for water accumulation in this region. Reservoirs are responsible for providing services to society over time, and are essential for the preservation of biodiversity and human survival. Among the services offered by an aquatic ecosystem are the supply and human supply, irrigation, power generation, recreation, flood control, transportation and navigation, nutrient balance and so on. The reservoir Minister João Alves, belonging to the municipality of Parelhas/RN, is part of the main river basin of the State, the Piranhas-Açu River basin, and comprises a large part of the Seridian territorial extension, about 17,498.50 km². With the main objective of identifying which ecosystem services are provided by the reservoir Minister João Alves in Parelhas/RN, we structured the present work in Revision of the bibliography for the foundation of the objectives proposed in this theme; Elaboration of a Field Form addressing questions about how to use the areas around the reservoir by the residents of the municipality's Fishermen's Colony; visit the area delimited for this research and the development of the Form. The results of the present work presented the provision of the Ecosystem Services of Provision - provision of water for human supply; development of fish farming; provision of wood for firewood. As well as the Regulatory Services - regulation of floods and control of droughts during periods of drought. Within the 40- to 56-year-old age group, most of the interviewees live in the area for more than 10 years and have a per capita family income below 1 minimum salary, income derived mainly from fishing activity. Therefore, they agree to a more efficient inspection of the waters of the reservoir and its surroundings in a way that contributes to the maintenance of the quality of the water guaranteeing the development of the fishing activity.openAccessRecursos hídricosReservatóriosServiços ecossistêmicosbachelorThesis
