This research carried out a retrospective clinical-epidemiological survey of cases of MEP in a Pathology Service of Rio Grande do Norte (RN), to improve the understanding of the profile of these patients and help their correct management by dentists. The data of cases diagnosed between January 2014 and December 2022 were collected from all the lesions received for analysis at the Service. We found 454 cases of MEP, which had their clinical records and histopathological reports analyzed, obtaining epidemiological, demographic and clinical informations. A prevalence of 7.44% was observed among all the lesions in the period of time analyzed, affecting mostly children and young adults (33.92%), browns (38.11%) and without predilection for gender. Moreover, the lower lip was the most affected site (69.60%), the mucoceles had a mean size of 0.95 cm, and the ranulas had a mean size of 2.19 cm; most of them were normochromic (50.88%), and evolution was less than 3 months (39.43%). The most prevalent treatment was excisional biopsy (88.11%). Oral mucocele was the main clinical diagnosis established by dentists (77.09%); fibroma, fibrous hyperplasia, and papilloma appeared as possible differential diagnoses. Therefore, it is concluded that the FEM is a very prevalent lesion in the population, with a clinical diagnosis that is relatively easy to establish, as long as an adequate clinical examination is performed, which also facilitates its correct management by dental surgeons.Attribution 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/br/MucoceleRânulaGlândulas salivaresGlândulas salivares menoresEpidemiologiaAvaliação clínico-epidemiológica de uma série de casos de fenômeno de extravasamento de mucoClinical-epidemiological evaluation of a series of cases of mucus extravasation phenomenonbachelorThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE
