Natal, 2025.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/64930Based on Swales (1990) socio-rhetorical approach, this study analyzes the rhetorical organization of the news genre as it appears in a traditional news website and the social media Instagram. This research, which adopts a qualitative and a descriptive-analytical approach, aims to identify the rhetorical strategies that constitute the genre, with particular focus on their adaptation to the communicative demands of each medium. The analysis is grounded in the CARS model proposed by Swales (1990), a study adopted by Brazilian researchs (Rodrigues, Araújo, & Sousa, 2009; Motta-Roth & Hendges, 2010). The findings revealed the recurrent presence of four rhetorical moves in the structure of the news: (1) attracting the audience and motivating news consumption; (2) contextualizing the news; (3) presenting the news content; and (4) presenting a concluding.
