This article, created during a teaching internship with a basic education class, aims to analyze History teaching-learning experiences, based on the iconographic analysis method proposed by Erwin Panofsky. During a three-month school term, students were asked to observe and characterize different paintings from the modern period, based on an analysis guide that considered the three levels of iconology comprehension. Thus, image reading activities were developed in five stages, and the students' responses are discussed throughout the article.
