This reality presents significant challenges for physicians, particularly due to the dependency often associated with the prolonged use of these medications and the negative impacts on patients's quality of life. This work, is a experience report, addresses the challenges and lessons learned during the Medical Residency period at the Expedito Araújo Primary Healthcare Unit in the city of Currais Novos, RN, in facing this scenario. The objective is to report the successes and failures, the facilitators and obstacles encountered in the process of benzodiazepine deprescription, highlighting strategies adopted to overcome resistance from patients and their families, the engagement of the multidisciplinary team, and the importance of health education. The report also reflects on the impact of this process on clinical practice, emphasizing the need for patient-centered care and the promotion of evidence-based practices.
