In recent times, these structures have a prominent role in telecommunications area due to its variety of applications. Among the applications, currently searching for FSS with ultra-wideband (UWB) and multiband characteristics. These characteristics are desired due to the development of technologies with increasing transmission capacity and telecommunications networks operate in several frequency bands reducing the operational and system deployment costs. In order to find FSS with such characteristics, one can make use of computational intelligence techniques in order to obtain optimal structures. Among the techniques, we have artificial neural networks of the RBF type, which will be used as a tool to obtain optimized FSS with multi band and /or broadband responses. In this work, three geometries were used widely in scientific reports and an unpublished one in the literature for the development of four FSS projects, being: FSS project for band X that made use of the geometric square spiral; FSS with UWB response that made use of cascaded double-square loop and square-loop structures; FSS with operation in the bands C and Ku that the geometry used was the cross of Jerusalem and, finally, was developed the FSS project with convoluted geometry unprecedented for application in the bands ISM and UNII.
