Dissertação (Mestrado em Educação Física) - Centro de Ciências da Saúde, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2024.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/58294Objective: To examine the association of different volumes of objectively measured moderateto-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) with functional fitness in older people. Methods: Crosssectional study involving 242 elderly people living in the community (71.9% women, age: 66 ± 5 years). MVPA was measured using an accelerometer for seven consecutive days. Participants were classified based on MVPA recommendations ( 150 min/week): “inactive” (<33%: <50 min/week), “somewhat active” (33-66%: 50-99 min/week), “moderately active” (67-99%: 100-149 min/week) and “active” (100%: 150-300 min/week). Functional fitness performance was assessed by the Senior Fitness Test battery including: six-minute walk test (6MWT), timed up and go test (TUG), 30-s chair stand test (30sCST), 30-s arm curl test (30sACT), chair sit-and-reach test (CSRT), and back scratch test (BST). A composite functional fitness score was calculated based on z-score. Generalized linear models were used to analyze differences between groups, considering the “very inactive” group as a reference. Results: The “moderately active” and “active” groups showed better performance in the 6MWT (β= 24.9 m; β= 42.9 m; respectively), TUG (β= -0.6 s; β= -0, 4 s; respectively), 30sCST (β= 1.7 rep; β= 1.1 rep; respectively), 30sACT (β= 0.8 rep; β= 1 rep; respectively), CSRT (β= 3.1 cm ; β= 4 cm; respectively), TAC (β= 1.3 cm; β= 1.7 cm; respectively) and the total functional fitness score (β= 2.2; β= 2.2; respectively) compared to the reference group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Elderly people with greater volumes of MVPA have better functional fitness in terms of quantity of components. However, lower-than-recommended MVPA volumes were also associated with better functional fitness of the lower limbs.Acesso AbertoEnvelhecimentoAtividade físicaAptidão cardiorrespiratóriaForça muscularAssociação de diferentes volumes de atividade física moderada a vigorosa medida com acelerômetro e aptidão funcional em pessoas idosas residentes na comunidadeAssociation of different volumes of moderate to vigorous physical activity measured with accelerometer and functional fitness in community-dwelling older adultsmasterThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::EDUCACAO FISICA
