To this end, we review the love notions in three thought stages: from the discourses on love in Plato's Symposium to Stendhal's studies, on love-passion and crystallization to José Ortega y Gasset, concerning the differentiation of love and falling in love; From Denis de Rougemont, regarding the influence of the myth of Tristan and Isolde on the conception of love in the West, to Octavio Paz, on his theory of life being formed by the connection between love, sexuality, and eroticism; and Betty Milan, as for the suppression of love for eroticism today. In the analysis of the perspectives on love in both of the short stories we considered the concepts of romantic love in the reading of “Marido” and of eros love in “A Sereia Ulisses”. In the comparative exercise, we identified its points of closeness and distance in terms of the conception of love from the point of view of the two protagonists in these two works. In “Marido” we see Lucia's conception of romantic love exercised through the divinization of the institution of marriage through her husband and her submission to him. In “A Sereia Ulisses”, we can also see the concept of eros love materialized through the Mermaid's subversion of the places culturally imposed on women.Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/amor romântico; amor erótico; Lídia Jorge; Nélida Piñon; literatura comparada.Do amor em “Marido”, de Lídia Jorge, e “A Sereia Ulisses”, de Nélida PiñonOn love in Lídia Jorge's "Marido", and Nélida Piñon's “A Sereia Ulisses”bachelorThesisCNPQ::LINGUISTICA, LETRAS E ARTES
