The main objective is to investigate the relationship between the Bachelor of Music program at UFRN and the local job market from the perspective of current students and graduates. Specific objectives include: presenting the challenges faced by musicians after graduation; highlighting the perspectives of undergraduate and graduate students on their professional reality; and identifying the perceived relationships between the program and the current professional scenario. Through a questionnaire, responses were obtained from 21 students and 14 graduates, considering the period from 2014 to 2024. The results indicate, for example, that many musicians work informally; engage in alternative activities, not always related to their qualification, to supplement their income; most are white or mixed race; women represent approximately one-third of the participants; some specializations present more challenging situations, considering the job opportunities; many consider that the program has gaps in addressing the challenges of the profession. Considering the discussions present in the consulted literature, these results seem to point to a possible mismatch between the program and the job market. However, it is understood that there is a complexity of factors related to this issue and that it is necessary to broaden the debate.
