This study is cross-sectional design and involves students from 1st to 5th grade, enrolled in municipal public schools in the urban area of the city of Santa Cruz (RN). Data collection was carried out in schools by students from various periods of the nutrition course. For the interview we used a socioeconomic questionnaire and EBIA scale. The sample included 377 students. The results obtained by EBIA show that almost half of the population is in some degree of food insecurity (49%). The vast majority of families have income less than two minimum wages (84%), and receive the benefit of the Bolsa Família Program (BFP) (82.6%). Relationship significant was demonstrated between food security and receiving the PBF (p = 0.049). The contribution of the PBF in the socioeconomic conditions of the assessed families can positively contribute to the safety profile food beneficiaries, since the monthly income is more related to this profile and the increase in family income may favor the purchase of food, which is one of the principles involved in ensuring food and nutrition security.
