The methodology used for the analysis multitemporal forinterpretation of the evolution of the land use was verified of great efficiency. Threeyears were considered: 1989, 1996 and 2001. The period from 1996 to 2001 was whatverified a more significant alteration in the land use. Besides the conversion of thetanks of salt activities in shrimp cultivation, the largest observed transformation is dueto the settlement appearance in areas of shut caatinga vegetation. The decrease andincrease dynamics of the mangroves areas seems to be more influenced by natural thathuman factor. The presence of the pole petroliferous of GuamarÈ didnít demonstratedirect influence on the land use municipal dynamics.
