To this end, the Theoretical-Causal Validity of a nursing diagnosis will be performed, with six steps being described, namely: Definition of the TMA construction approach, Definition of the theoretical-conceptual models to be analyzed, Definition of the main concepts of TMA, Development of a pictorial scheme, Construction of TMA propositions and Establishment of causality relations and evidence for practice. Initially, an integrative literature review was carried out, in the period of June and July 2022, in the Scopus, ScienceDirect, PUBMED/Medline, CINAHL, LILACS and Web of Science databases, for the composition of the defining characteristics, related factors, populations at risk and associated conditions. Subsequently, the findings were refined through a review of diagnostic accuracy to extract clinical indicators and a review of etiology and risk to recognize related factors, population at risk and associated conditions that occurred in, in the databases: Scopus, MEDLINE /PubMed, LILACS, CINAHL and PsycINFO (APA). With the results, 26 clinical indicators, 23 related factors, 7 populations at risk and 5 associated conditions were recognized. In view of the recognition of the main concepts mentioned above, a pictorial scheme was structured, that is, a graphic representation of the TMA and the establishment of 16 propositions capable of explaining the clinical and causal relationships between the concepts. The results of this research show a structural inconsistency in the current presentation of the Nursing Diagnosis Caregiver role strain in the NANDA-I taxonomy. Thus, the development of other validation steps (content validity and clinical validity) is recommended in order to propose a new model of diagnostic proposition for the diagnosis under study.
