METHODS: Participants in the study were young, healthy men with no recent experience with lower limb strength training. The volunteers were randomized to either the PCI group or the placebo group. The PCI group underwent four cycles with periods of five minutes of ischemia (pressure total occlusion of the posterior tibial artery) interspersed with five minutes of reperfusion (restriction pressure = 0 mmHg). The placebo group was submitted to the same protocol, but a minimum pressure (10 mm Hg) was applied during the ischemia period. After the interventions, the volunteers underwent a protocol of muscle damage induced by eccentric isokinetic exercise (10 sets of 12 maximal eccentric repetitions) in the non-dominant femoral quadriceps. Outcome measures were assessed: muscle function (peak torque), perception (VAS) and muscle pain threshold (algometry), evaluated before and 24 hours after the EIMD protocol. Results: There were no statistically significant differences intra or intergroups in any of the evaluated moments, for any of the variables.
