Monografia (Graduação em Serviço Social) - Centro de Ciências Sociais Aplicadas, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2022.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/48671This work has as its general objective the phenomenon of obstetric violence in the Brazilian reality and its nuances, as a result of the process of denaturalization, precarization and commercialization of childbirth, under the influence of the institutionalization of medicine and its hierarchical, patriarchal and discriminatory power relations. This process resulted in the woman's loss of autonomy and knowledge about her own body, especially about the act of giving birth. In this perspective, the following specific objectives were defined: to investigate obstetric violence and associate it with race, class and gender markers by observing black women as its main victims, as well as seeking to highlight the expression of structural racism in attention to health of women in pregnancy-puerperal cycle and obstetric violence perpetrated against black women, in addition to verifying the existence of some measures to prevent and combat obstetric violence within the legal framework and public policies. The methodological path chosen for surveying and deepening data was through bibliographic research, which consists of sources built by materials prepared such as books and scientific articles that made it possible to correlate obstetric violence with racism, feminism and social class, as well as research documental through printed documents such as legislation, plans and policies aimed at pregnant women, childbirth and humanized health and non-printed documents such as, for example, the documentary “O renascimento do parto”. In this perspective, the research is characterized by a qualitative nature by examining empirical data mapped by existing studies on how obstetric violence is structured in Brazilian society and being systematized together with the problematization outlined in the objectives of the aforementioned study. Thus, with the analysis carried out throughout the research, it is clear that obstetric violence manifests itself in a subtle to more explicit way in the institutional sphere, whether public or private, affecting mainly black women. In addition, it was verified the existence of measures to prevent and combat obstetric violence, but there is still a need to reinforce their effectiveness, as well as to encourage humanized childbirth, seen as a way to rescue the autonomy and dominion of the parturient over her body.
