In Brazil, there are currently 50 documented cases of herbicide resistance, including single and multiple resistance. Resistance is caused by natural genetic variability in weed populations, with the herbicide acting as a selective rather than a causal agent. To mitigate the risk of resistance, it is essential to adopt practices such as accurate identification of weed species and implementation of preventive and corrective strategies, including cultural, mechanical, manual and biological practices in the context of Integrated Weed Management (IMPD). Crop rotation and the use of herbicides with different mechanisms of action are effective measures. This study, carried out on ten properties in the municipality of Boa Saúde (RN), sought to identify and quantify resistant weed species in cassava and sweet potato crops. The research revealed a high diversity of weeds, with emphasis on Commelina diffusa (Trapoeraba), Cenchrus echinatus (Carrapicho) and Cyperus rotundus (Tiririca), both with strong interference in crops. A high dependence on glyphosate was observed, with 70% of the properties reporting resistance, evidencing the need for integrated management and herbicide rotation. The scarcity of registered products for both crops and the low use of chemical mixtures were challenges identified.
