It explains what represents the interption of pregnancy for some societies from antiquity to the present day. It also builds a research on abortion in the field of feminism, medical sciences and religious. An approach on abortion is done in an attempt to combine feminist literature, sociological theory and human rights by exploring the exercise of medical professionals from their conflicting statements between what are the rules and who perform it in daily practice. For this purpose, we use structured interviews, research literature about the subject and participant observation to the construction of a diary, from the perspective of making a photography of the space devoted to the service of abortion in Natal. The research reveals that are performed monthly around 400 procedures related to abortion / postabortion care in hospitals in Natal, of which about 250 occur in Januário Cicco Maternity School, 100 at the Hospital Santa Catarina and 50 in the Maternity Leide Moraes.openAccessAborto – Aspectos Sociais.
