Among the several native peoples of Brazil are the Potiguara, most of whom currently live in Paraíba, more specifically in the municipalities of Baia da Traição, Maracation and Rio Tinto. In view of this, this study aims to present possibilities of approach on teaching about the history of indigenous peoples in classrooms of Basic Education. From this perspective, we seek to offer subsidies to transform representations and crystallized stereotypes about these groups, as well as to present notes on the forms of constitution of indigenous identities, especially the Potiguara in Paraíba, understood as the result of choices within specific historical, political and social contexts. As a guideline of our dissertation, we present the results of interviews and collaborative dialogues with a potiguara intellectual and militant, her life trajectory and activity as an educator. We also present pedagogical subsidies for an approach to the indigenous theme in the classroom from an intercultural and decolonized perspective. In order to demonstrate the applicability of some of these proposals, there are exposed reports of experiences and analyzes of educational situations related to the indigenous theme held at a regular school in the city of João Pessoa / PB.
