This research specifically aims to understand how subjects belonging to peripheral groups, over 60 years old and belonging to the rural area of small towns, are using new communication tools, mainly the internet. For that, we investigated the sociability of subjects residing in the urban and rural perimeters of the districts of Barra de Cunhaú and Piquiri, respectively, located in the municipality of Canguaretama, in the interior of the State of Rio Grande do Norte. In this sense, we emphasize that this study is interested in investigating the interaction of elderly people with the new means of Communication and Information Technology (CITs), as well as understanding how the internet influences the behavior of these individuals in particular. In view of this, as an analysis procedure, we applied questionnaires on the subject and used semi-structured interviews that made it possible to verify the hypotheses raised.
