Monografia (Graduação em Ciências Biológicas) – Centro de Biociências, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2025.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/68359The present study aimed to conduct a preliminary survey of the diversity of fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) and their hosts in the municipality of Baraúna, Rio Grande do Norte, in order to fill a gap in faunistic data for the Western Potiguar region. Collections were carried out between April 2001 and December 2003 in different environments, such as orchards, backyards, and Caatinga fragments. The methodology involved collecting ripe fruits and using McPhail traps, followed by laboratory processing for adult emergence and taxonomic identification. A total of 2,248 specimens were analyzed, resulting in the identification of four species of the genus Anastrepha Schiner, 1868 (Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart, 1835), Anastrepha zenildae Zucchi, 1979, Anastrepha sororcula Zucchi, 1979, and Anastrepha pickeli Lima, 1934) and the invasive species Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann, 1824). The results showed a clear dominance of C. capitata, which accounted for 83.23% of all specimens collected. Among the native species, A. sororcula (7.03%) and A. zenildae (6.23%) were the most abundant. Guava (Psidium guajava L.) and cajá (Spondias spp. L.) hosts exhibited the greatest diversity of associated species.
