In this context, it is found, the education of deaf people, which is not such a widespread subject in society. How the Portuguese language is developed for this group of people is even more alien to the population, exposing the real face of the invisibility of education in the Brazilian deaf community. With that, the objectives of the present work were; Investigate and analyze, based on theoretical conceptions, the teaching approaches currently used in the teaching of Portuguese language for the deaf; Present teachers' beliefs about their teaching methodologies; Understand and report the academic training that teachers have undergone; Investigate possible problematic factors in the teaching performance; Provide a selfreflection study to active teachers, as well as future teachers, on the beliefs of teaching Portuguese to deaf people. As for the methodological aspects of the research, the work used both a qualitative and a quantitative approach, framing itself in a mixed research approach, as a means of investigating the teaching process of teachers, two sources of data were used: interview and the questionnaire. The theoretical basis of the work is based on the principles of a bibliographic review that took place through research in printed and electronic documents and works, aiming to survey the conceptions of authors such as Almeida Filho (1993), Menezes (2019), Barcelos (2007), Gesser (2009), Skliar (1998), Perlin (1998) Salles (2004). To the detriment of the answers obtained in the research, it was stated that there is a need for literature on the theme of teaching the Portuguese language for the deaf, as well as the promotion of more accessible forms of the existing materials on the subject so that education teachers public and for students of undergraduate courses can acquire knowledge on the subject to support their practice.
