Tourist use in the lagoons is becoming a very sought after activity in the last years and attracts visitors year-round. With the dissemination of the Water Route, a circuit that includes seven lagoons of Nísia Floresta and was created by people selling rides to these lake areas, the development of tourism in the lagoons has intensified with the provision of various services and leisure equipment , modifying the natural landscape and causing social and environmental implications. In this way, the research focuses on the process of use and occupation by leisure and tourism activities in the lake areas of Arituba and Alcaçuz, both located in the municipality of Nísia Floresta (RN), and difficulties in the application of laws that regulate and regulate the use of these areas. The methodological procedures were based on several bibliographical readings, data collection from IBGE, IDEMA-RN, SETUR-RN and other bodies, as well as the legislation that frames the lagoons and also the application of questionnaires addressed to the visitors of the lagoons. The relevance of this research is to try to identify the forms of uses that have contributed to the degradation of the lagoons and that also affect the population that depends on them. The results of this research showed that the legislation is not applied integrally in the lacustrine areas of Nísia Floresta and that, therefore, the environmental preservation becomes more and more difficult.
