However, there is still a high incidence of maternal and newborn mortality, especially in regions lacking resources. Organizations such as the United Nations have set goals to reduce these figures by 2030 and, to this end, the World Health Organization's Safe Childbirth Checklist is being widely implemented. This tool, based on scientific evidence, aims to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes by promoting essential birth practices from childbirth until discharge. OBJECTIVE: this study aims to identify and map the background and perspectives of Safe Childbirth Checklist in order to descriptively analyze what has been studied on the subject and reflect on its possible future repercussions. METHODOLOGY: This is a scoping review, following the guidelines of the Joan Briggs Institute. RESULTS: The results revealed a wide application of the checklist, especially in developing countries, which is linked to the implementation strategies used, particularly coaching. In addition, some recurring barriers were identified, such as lack of resources and resistance from health professionals, which interferes with the adoption of the list in many contexts and, consequently, reduces its use and its impact on improving birth-related outcomes.
