Snakes, scorpions, spiders and caterpillars are the poisonous animals of greatest clinical importance due to the number of accidents registered in Brazil, being more than 100 thousand accidents and almost 200 deaths per year, resulting from incidents with these animals. This research aimed to conduct a survey of accidents by venomous animals that occurred in the city of Currais Novos - RN from 2013 to 2018. A quanti-qualitative retrospective study of documentary nature was conducted in the health surveillance sector of this city. The research was carried out through the evaluation of the notification forms of this sector, in order to describe the dynamics of accidents with venomous animals in Currais Novos, RN. The research population consisted of individuals affected by accidents with venomous animals in the city in that period. The instrument used for data collection were the notification forms from the health surveillance sector in the city and complementary data available on the SINAN online platform. The main variables evaluated were: Occurrence Zone, occurrence of local and systemic manifestations resulting from the accident, type of accident (Ophidianism, scorpionism, etc.), occurrence or not of complications (local or systemic) resulting from the accident, evolution of the case, manifestations clinics by type of accident (snakebite, scorpionism, etc.). The data were expressed in percentages. 542 files were analyzed, of which it was found that scorpions were the cause of 32.1% of accidents. The age group most affected was people between 20 and 39 years old (39.6%); the male gender was the most affected (52.5%). The urban area presented 68.2% of the cases. 2018 was the year with the highest incidence, being the feet and hands the most affected anatomical site. The time between the occurrence of the accident and the assistance was between 0 and 3h for 27.1% of the patients. Most accidents were mild (68.2%). Based on these data, the Municipality of Currais Novos presented a relevant prevalence of cases of accidents by venomous animals, and a tendency to increase these, every year, leading to the need for alerting the local surveillance services for this disease.
