Method: This is an observational, descriptive study with a qualitative approach, conducted with the PCLH team of a university hospital. The data produced from the observations were analyzed and grouped into categories and discussed with the theoretical frameworks. Results: two categories emerged: Potentialities in the work process of the PCLH that was broken down into the subcategories: care activities, managerial activities and educational activities; and Weaknesses in the work process of the PCLH. Conclusion: The comprehension of the work process of the studied team allowed us to understand the importance that the PCLH presents at the state level with regard to the development of various breastfeeding promotion and protection practices, based on a work process based on the planning, organization, scientific basis and guided by Regulatory Standards.
