For many people with reduced mobility, a wheelchair (WR) is a prerequisite for participation and carrying out different activities in society. An inadequate wheelchair can result in poor health conditions such as reduced functional abilities, pressure injuries, physiological complications, social isolation, reduced quality of life and even death. The general aim of the study was to assess the suitability of wheelchairs as the main means of locomotion for users of the spinal cord injury care line at the Macaíba/RN RSC. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study carried out as part of the research project “Functional mobility observed from wheelchair handling skills The participants were users of the spinal cord injury care line at the Specialized Rehabilitation Centre (CER IV) of the Santos Dumont Institute/ISD. Participants were assessed using a pre-structured assessment form, developed based on the guidelines established by the Ministry of Health for the manufacture and maintenance of orthoses, prostheses and mobility aids. The data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel software. 33 participants were assessed, 79% of whom were men. It was observed that 88% of them had at least one part of their RC in need of adjustment.
