A form of cultural expression with sound and dance elements based on the Afro-Brazilian musical tradition, Coco de Zambê exists in the community of Cabeceiras and in the quilombola community of Sibaúma, both in the coastal region of Tibau do Sul. In this work we discuss the activities of Zambê Grupo Herdeiros de Zumbi (GHZ), from Sibaúma, seeking to understand how the musical performance of this group fits into other socio-cultural activities of the community. Methodologically, I carried out an ethnographic field research, which sought to apprehend cultural elements and musical knowledge and making, through interviews, audio and video recordings and bibliographic study. The description and analysis of musical knowledge and practices includes aspects such as dance, rhythms, the organology of instruments, the lyrics of songs, and performance in the community. It concludes that the Herdeiros de Zumbi Group has similar characteristics to the Coco de Zambê by Mestre Geraldo, from Cabeceiras, but significant differences, and that the musical performance of the group is closely related to the socio-cultural needs of the quilombola community, where it operates.Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/Coco de ZambêSibaúma/RNPerformanceRitmos Afro-brasileirosA performance musical do Grupo Herdeiros de ZumbibachelorThesis
