These compounds are stable and have mutagenic and carcinogenic characteristics that affect living beings in general. In this way, the effluents of this type of industry cannot be treated by traditional processes. Therefore, the advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) emerged and among them the electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs). In the present work, a synthetic effluent containing the methyl orange (MOR) diazo dye was used to evaluate the behaviour of two different cathodes, stainless steel (SS) and air diffusion (ADC), through the electrochemical oxidation (EO) and electro-Fenton (EF) processes. The obtained results for the EO revealed that the nature of cathode has a significant influence on the colour removal of the pollutant, using diamond-doped boron as anode (non-active anode) at low current densities (j) when compared to the dimensional stable anode (active anode). In systems where it was introduced O2 and Fe2 +, the CDA with H2O2 generation promotes Fenton reactions, increasing meaningfully the efficiency of the system, regardless of the nature of the anode applied. For the system with boron-doped diamond/ADC, the degradation of MOR was analysed over time, as well as the evolution of the short chain carboxylic acids. For this system, a value of 91.8 kWh m-3 was obtained for energy consumption.
