The concept of imaginary as developed by Gilbert Durand (2012), Gaston Bachelard (2001; 2013) and Jacques Racière (2005) is applied to analyse the aesthetics construction of the “retirante” in brazilian literature and drama, so as to understand how it evoques feelings towards the social question of drought, poverty and social exclusion, aiming to point to a political consciousness of the limits between art and its social dimension.
