To this end, a questionnaire with open and closed questions about oral health, applied among 70 teachers from 11 schools of the city was used. To evaluate the level of knowledge of the participants, it was considered the following scores: 0-50% correct of the questions proposals as unsatisfactory knowledge; 51-70% as a reasonable knowledge and above 70% as satisfactory knowledge. Of those surveyed, 91.4% consider that the teacher shares with his family and the surgeon dentist the responsibility to guide students about oral hygiene and 95.7% reported performing activities to education and promotion of oral health. As regards the definition and removal of plaque 37.1% believe that the plate is a yellow mass on the tooth surface, while 61.4% consider that the scraping is the most appropriate procedure for its removal. Regarding the fluoride, 84.1% answered correctly its function. When asked about matters relating to the prevention, 51.7% believe that dental cavities is prevented by just brushing, while 87.1% of participants knew the characteristics of the brush suitable for children. According to the criteria adopted for the evaluation, we concluded that teachers have a reasonable knowledge of oral health, with some limitations, signaling the need for training activities for these professionals so that they have a deeper understanding in theme and in fact can be multipliers of information on health.openAccessConhecimento.Educação em saúde bucal.Professores.bachelorThesis
