The research was structured in three stages, each with specific objectives that contributed to the development of the study. In Stage 1, the processes of reading and writing were investigated from three levels of analysis: linguistic, psychological, and neuropsychological. Stage 2 involved the study of Soviet teaching methodologies, both in the context of educational training and rehabilitative education, within the framework of Historical-Cultural Neuropsychology and Developmental Learning Theory. Finally, Stage 3 focused on the development of “Janelas para Leitura”: the developmental intervention program for reading and writing, emphasizing the definition of its structure and content. The program integrates neuropsychological, linguistic, and educational aspects, aiming to enhance the appropriation of written language through a phonological, reflective, and conscious method. Organized in a progressive manner, the program follows a methodological sequence that respects the increasing grafo-phonemic complexity of Portuguese. Moreover, it offers adaptations for different clinical profiles, considering the specific difficulties presented by the children.
