This is a descriptive and retrospective epidemiological study with a quantitative approach, by indirect documents of cases referring to accidents. of work involving biological material in Brazil between 2012 and 2022, notified in the Notifiable Diseases Information System. The collected data were tabulated in TABWIN, made the descriptive statistical treatment, presented through graphs and tables and discussed with other authors of the literature. The results evidenced the greater notification of injuries in the Southeast region, with workers with a technical level and complete higher education, mainly with health professionals, specifically in nursing and with a predominance of accidents caused by surgical procedures, inadequate disposal of material and administration of intravenous medications. As well as the inadequate completion of notifications, identified by variables with a large number of ignored or blank information, such as the evolution of cases, use of protective equipment, vaccination status, exposed biological material, type of exposure, among others.
