Monografia (Graduação em Biomedicina) - Curso de Biomedicina, Centro de Biociências, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2018.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/43206Entomology is the science that studies insects, their characteristics and their habits. The forensic branch of entomology applies this knowledge about insects and other arthropods to help solve criminal and civil investigations. This area of study is still relatively new in Brazil, although it has been used in the world for about 150 years, in order to determine the postmortem interval, to identify cases of neglect or abuse of children and the elderly, if the cadaver was moved and even detect drugs and toxins. This last part refers to the subdivision of forensic entomology called entomotoxicology, which is even more recent, having started in 2001 in Brazil and only in 2013 in Rio Grande do Norte. There are still few works developed in this area due to difficulties such as lack of funding and association between researchers and people of criminal scope. The present study had aimed to make a survey about the states of Brazil that have publications in forensic entomology to date and also to make a review on entomotoxicology in Brazil and Rio Grande do Norte, addressing its obstacles and future perspectives. For this, a bibliographical research was carried out using the keyword "Entomotoxicology" in the NCBI, Scielo and ResearchGate from January to November 2018. There were 80 articles and / or theses, of which 55 were related to Entomotoxicology. Of the 55 papers analyzed, 29 were written by Brazilian researchers and six of them were carried out in Rio Grande do Norte. Of the 27 states in Brazil, only in 7 there wasn’t any published work so far and another 7 have an somo sort of association between the criminal area and researchers. Therefore, studies are still needed in the area, especially in Brazil, as well as a greater integration between official criminal expertise and entomologists.Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/EntomologiaForenseEntomotoxicologiaEntomotoxicologyEntomotoxicologia: perspectivas no Brasil e Rio Grande do NortebachelorThesis
