Starting from a historical contextualization, the research reflects on the impacts of gender inequality in the labor market and the obstacles limiting female leadership, such as cultural and institutional barriers. This research was motivated by the persistence of structural inequalities that, despite recent advances, continue to hinder women's access to leadership roles. Using a qualitative approach, interviews were conducted with women leaders working in municipal public administration, complemented by a literature review on female leadership, gender inequalities, and public administration. The results highlight the need for cultural and organizational transformation to promote more inclusive and equitable environments. Key implications include the importance of institutional policies that encourage diversity and the adoption of strategies to overcome challenges related to the double burden and gender stereotypes. The study concludes with practical recommendations for promoting gender equity in the public sector, proposing initiatives to expand women's access to leadership positions and strengthen their support networks.
