In order to comprehend this notion it is necessary to elucidate human nature described by the author, oncethisnature grounds his ethical definition.Individualhuman nature, for Mill,comprisesa central element which is the search for pleasure and scape of pain; this notion is al so namedhedonisticthesis. This thesis is verified empirically, as well as other components of individuals such as capacity of experiencehigher quality pleasures,ability of acting by habit and capability of qualitative development over time.
