Heart failure (HF) stands out among CVD, as it is the only one that has been increasing in incidence and prevalence. Most patients with CVD report decreased functional capacity. If there is an imbalance in the interactions between the cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic and muscular system, added to modulation by the autonomic nervous system, the individual's CF can be reduced. The evaluation of functional capacity in patients with HF can be performed through the 6-minute walk test (6MWT), however, this test does not assess the limitations of activities performed with the upper limbs, so it becomes important to include in the functional evaluation of patients undergoing a cardiac rehabilitation program, a test that involves performing activities with the upper limbs. The ADL-Glittre test was initially proposed to assess the functional capacity (FC) of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). In this test the patient performs varied tasks such as: sitting and lifting, walking, climbing and descending stairs, reaching and moving weights on shelves. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the ADL-Glittre test is an appropriate instrument for assessing functional capacity in patients with heart disease. Methodology: This is a narrative literature review based on the survey of articles published in online databases, public medline (Pubmed), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Cochrane Library (Cochrane), Virtual Health Library (VHL), and portal of Capes journals on the evaluation of functional capacity in cardiac diseases by the ADL-Glittre test. Results: Four published studies were analyzed, which mainly analyzed the FC correlating with time of the ADL-Glittre test with other variar, the results showing that the use of the ADL-Glittre test for evaluation of CF in cardiac patients is promising.. Conclusion: The results obtained in this review lead us to believe that this test can be an evaluation instrument to be used in cardiac patients. However, this review suggests the need for further studies due to the small number of studies and very small samples.
