Defects in the development of the brain and spinal cord result in CD of the central nervous system (CNS). With the aim of investigating the current scenario of congenital disorders in the potiguar territory, this study aimed to evaluate the incidence of CNS CD in the state of RN from 2010 to 2020. SINASC was the system used for data collection. In RN, the incidence of CNS DC from 2010 to 2020 was 12,5 per 10.000 births. The years with the highest incidences were 2015, 2016, and 2017, a period that coincided with the Zika virus epidemic in Brazil. The most common CNS malformations were anencephaly, microcephaly, unspecified congenital hydrocephalus, and unspecified spina bifida. Regarding geographical distribution, the municipalities with the highest incidences were São Miguel do Gostoso, Lajes, Tangará, Lagoa de Pedras, and Lagoa Salgada. When evaluating the Human Development Index (HDI), a weak inverse correlation was observed, where lower HDI corresponds to a higher incidence of these conditions.Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/br/Distúrbios congênitosCongenital disordersSistema nervoso centralCentral nervous systemDistúrbios congênitos do sistema nervoso central em recém-nascidos: análise das incidências no Rio Grande do NorteCongenital disorders of the central nervous system in newborns: analysis of incidence in Rio Grande do NortebachelorThesis
