Oil sludge is a constituted residue of a mixture of oils, it sands, stone and water, generated into tanks of separation water-oil (SWO) of the refineries of petroleum. In the largest basin of exploration of petroleum Brazilian, Basin of Santos, responsible for about 80% of the petroleum produced at the country are generated about 80 tons/month of oil sludgeandrepresents a residue of difficult treatment and final disposition for the industry of the petroleum. Nowadays, technologies are being developed and they represent viable alternatives for the treatment and use of that residue. Among those alternatives, are mentioned: thermal treatments for pyrolysis, gaseification and incineration, the recycling of the oil shale with your incorporation to the loamy mass for the production of ceramic blocks in the building site and your disposition in landfarming. The pyrolysis stands out when compared with the differentiated types of processes, for generating products (liquids, solids and gaseous), with joined values, that can be used, as source of fuels or in other uses related to the own industry petrochemicalPiróliseAproveitamento da borra de petróleoBorra de petróleoCaracterísticas químicas e pirólise de borra de petróleo: uma revisãoarticle
