Dificuldades na aquisição, preparo e consumo de alimentos vivenciadas por pessoas com deficiência visual. 2019. 36 f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Nutrição) – Curso de Nutrição, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/40079Visual impairment can affect diet, interfering from access to shopping and food preparation to food autonomy. In this sense, the objective of this study was to evaluate the difficulties encountered by people with visual impairment in the acquisition, preparation and consumption of food. It is an observational, cross-sectional study, conducted with 98 people of both sexes and with different degrees of visual impairment, who attended institutions supporting people with disabilities in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Data collection took place from August 2016 to September 2017, through a pre-defined interview that addressed the difficulties related to food and means of overcoming. To compare the frequency of feeding-related difficulties among blind and low vision participants, the Chi-square test was used. Of the participants, 62.2% found it difficult to buy processed foods, 56.1% to buy fresh foods and 77.6% to identify whether or not foods are suitable for consumption. It was also reported by 48% of people to have difficulty preparing meals, and most reported receiving help from others to overcome the difficulties. There was no significant difference (p = 0.05) between blind and low vision people except in the use of the peeling and cutting knife, which was predominant in people with low vision. It is concluded that difficulties related to eating are frequent among people with visual impairment, and often need help from others to perform an activity as vital as eating. This dependence may discourage the search for eating with healthy eating habits and have a good relationship with the act of eating, thus preferring the use of practicality and having its diet mainly composed of processed and ultra-processed foods, which can directly affect your nutritional status.Deficiência visual, Alimentação, Dificuldades.Visual deficiency, Eating, Difficulties.Dificuldades na aquisição, preparo e consumo de alimentos vivenciadas por pessoas com deficiência visualbachelorThesis
