Within the stomatognathic system, the tongue is involved in several functions, and it is essential that its strength is adequate for the functions to be performed. Objective: Creation of an average tongue pressure peak for Brazilian elderly people. Method: The sample had 99 individuals divided between dentate and prosthetized, aged 60 to 95 years, 76 women and 23 men, who met the inclusion criteria. In the questionnaire there was personal identification, assessment of tongue pressure through the Iowa Oral Performance Instrument. The analysis of normality parameters were performed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test of tongue pressure for the elderly with prosthesis, according to the Gaussian curve in its mean, standard deviation and 95%CI and for the elderly with functional dentition, the variables were presented based on descriptive and inferential statistics using Student's t test for independent samples, at a significance level of 0.05. Results: The study showed an average of 44.20 KPa (± 14.43) for prosthetized and 48.00 KPa (± 19.51) for dentate, with a minimum and maximum value of 14 and 74 KPa for prosthetized and for dentate 11 and 80 kPa.
