The paper proposes the use of renewable energy sources in a small rural settlement community located in the Potiguar city of Touros, with photovoltaic modules and wind turbine. Such a system should generate most of the energy consumed by the local population, with the public electricity grid only as a complement when none of the other sources generates sufficient energy. From household energy consumption data and weather data, HOMER Pro software analyses and simulates various permissible scenarios, returning the best possible result. The most economically efficient arrangement was the hybrid one, featuring a total of 50 kW generation capacity photovoltaic modules, a 10 kW Wind turbine with 24 meters high and a 40,6 kW and 95% efficient inverter, generating more than enough power to meet current consumption conditions.
